A further six 5 MW wind turbines are to be installed next summer at a test field for offshore wind technology located 45 kilometres north of the German island of Borkum. All six machines, to be supplied by Multibrid Entwicklungsgesellschaft, the turbine production division of wind developer Prokon Nord, have been ordered by Deutsche Offshore Testfeld und Infrastruktur, known as DOTI. DOTI is owned E.ON Energy Projects, part of Germany's largest energy company E.ON, Vattenfall Europe, another major incumbent, as well as large regional energy company EWE. The machines will be installed on tripod foundations anchored to the seabed. Hub height will be about 90 metres above sea level. Water depth at the site is about 30 metres. Nacelles for the turbines are being built in Multibrid's new 3500 square metre production facility at the Labrador port in Bremerhaven, northern Germany. Another six 5 MW turbines are also planned for the test field. These are being supplied by Repower Systems, the German manufacturer recently acquired by India's Suzlon.
