Tower maker DMI Industries is ramping up its yearly production in America to meet demand for 3000 MW of turbines, cementing its place as the largest manufacturer of towers for the North American market. A new facility announced in May for Tulsa, Oklahoma, is ideally located to service strong Midwest and Texas demand, says company President Lars Møller. It will also allow the company to look abroad for business since the facility has access to the Mississippi River. This allows towers to move north by barge to the Midwest or south into the Gulf of Mexico where DMI says it could easily ship to European and the South American markets. "We intend to go international from there and target offshore in Europe," says Møller. "We have additional expansion interests in North America, as well as abroad. We think there are some opportunities in Europe and Asia-Pacific." The company has experienced steady growth, going from 100 employees at one facility in 2004, to three facilities and 800 employees -- with about 450 expected to staff the new Oklahoma facility, due online by next year. In 2005 DMI opened a facility at Fort Erie, Ontario, to service the East.
