Spain's top utility, Endesa, has completed its 74 MW, EUR 55 million Silán wind plant in Galicia. The grid connection last month increases the sale value of the utility's renewables division, Endesa Cogeneración y Renovables (Ecyr), half of which has been up for sale since November. Silán is powered by 112 fixed-pitch 660 kW turbines from Made, also owned by Endesa and also up for sale. The company estimates an annual production of 202,530 MWh from Silán, equivalent to the burning of around 296,380 barrels of oil. Hoards of volunteers are still cleaning up Galicia's beaches following the massive crude oil spill from the tanker ship Prestige in November last year. Ecyr has a further 25 MW building in Aragón and expects to put up a further 210 MW across Spain in the second half of 2003. Endesa claims to have a stake in wind plant totalling 780 MW nationwide, with 361 MW turning in Galicia, where Spain's best winds blow.
