Wind power supply well above target
Wind energy supplied 13% of Portugal's electricity in the first quarter of 2009, claims the Portuguese renewable energy association, APREN. By 2020 it will be supplying 20-22%, says APREN's António Sá da Costa, while overall renewable energy consumption could hit 64% -- well above the 60% targeted by the country's ministry of economy and innovation. Commenting on the European Wind Energy Association's forecast that wind energy will represent 14-18% of the electricity supplied to EU homes in 2020, Sá da Costa said he believes that Portugal is on "a good path."
