Twenty countries now contribute data and the coverage is steadily being improved. Data from Denmark is collected and processed by the publishers of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç who are associate contractors on the Eurowin Database project. Countries from eastern Europe are now joining Eurowin and a separate database, EUSEFIA, is being developed of component failures, incidents and accidents.
The Eurowin data base in brief
The current Eurowin base has data on 6400 registered wind turbines in Europe. The scope of the base has gradually developed over the last decade. Today, 20 countries contribute to the base. Much of the data is compiled and processed by the publishers of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç who are associate contractors to Eurowin.
The origins of the Eurowin database go back to 1980 when the European Commission's first wind research and development programme was initiated. One of the actions undertaken, by Prof Jürgen Schmid was, "The collection of data on the operation of existing aerogenerators." This formed the basis for the second programme and the concept has gradually been developed over the years. The aim was, and still is, to provide accurate and authoritative information on progress in the industry to meet a wide range of needs. The data base does not claim to have knowledge of every wind turbine in Europe, but about 6400 wind turbines with an installed capacity of nearly 1050 MW are registered. The degree of coverage depends on the reporting arrangements which exist in the country concerned.
