The first Enercon 1.5 MW with a 100 metre tower was due to be installed at an inland site, 30 kilometres south of Braunschweig, at the end of June. The machine, with a rotor diameter of 60 metres, will join two other Enercon machines already operating close by. One is an E 40 500 kW unit owned by a local miller, the other a 1.5 MW E66 unit on a 70 metre tower. "It will then be possible to compare the performance and visual appearance of the machines," says Enercon owner Aloys Wobben. A prototype of the 1.5 MW has been running at Enercon headquarters in Aurich for 18 months and Enercon is now moving it slowly into series production. The company expects to install between 20 and 30 of the unit this year.
