New wind lobby boss brings experience with competitive market reform

The new Chief Executive of the Irish Wind Energy Association (IWEA) comes from a background working for wires operator Eirgrid. Michael Walsh was previously Eirgrid manager of market development for the All-island Single Electricity Market. He worked on the transition of the Irish power market to its current open-access model with the phased opening of competition and choice of electricity supplier for consumers. "With Michael's appointment the IWEA is signalling its commitment to bring our organisation to the next level in terms of its professionalism and technical and policy expertise, and service to its members," says IWEA president Paddy Teahon. The Single Electricity Market and the All-Island project provided the focus of the IWEA's autumn conference at the end of last month.
