Siif Énergies, the renewable energy subsidiary of utility EDF, has changed its name to EDF Énergies Nouvelles. The new name is intended to underscore EDF's commitment to renewable energy, to clarify the identity of its subsidiary and to raise its profile in the market place by emphasising the link with EDF. Siif Énergies was founded in the 1980s to develop hydroelectric and fossil fuel power plants, before adding wind power to its portfolio in 1998. EDF bought a 50% stake in the company in 2002. The company's biggest project to date is the 19.5 MW Bouin wind farm in the Vendée department of western France, inaugurated in 2003. EDF Énergies Nouvelles will continue to concentrate on wind power, which comprises 64% of the company's total installed capacity, while maintaining its involvement in hydro, solar and biomass projects. It is also eyeing up the international wind market, particularly in the rest of Europe and in Latin America.
