Enron Wind espands

With contracts signed for delivery of more than 300 MW of turbines in the American Midwest, expansion is clearly in the wind at Enron Wind Corp (EWC). Last month the company was listing more than 50 job openings, from a $150,000-a-year vice president of sales and a senior mechanical/structural engineer for a salary of $80,000, to field technicians and a data entry clerk. The jobs were advertised on the American Wind Energy Association's WindNet bulletin board. Industry observers characterise the salaries being offered as impressive and proof that EWC is seeking top-drawer personnel. The company has contracts to supply turbines for a total of 207 MW on Buffalo Ridge in Minnesota and for 112.5 MW for a deal signed with Iowa utility MidAmerican Energy Co. Total US wind power capacity today is about 1600 MW.
