HSW also has a foothold in Russia but the uncertain political climate is preventing significant progress. Nonetheless, HSW has signed a contract to supply ten, 30 kW turbines to the Saratov region on the Volga. Russian company, Sovena, intends to build most of the parts and assemble the machines under licence. However, the first gearbox built by Sovena and sent to HSW for testing revealed faults within four hours of operation. Improvements to Russian quality control will be needed before the licence agreement can take effect, says HSW.
