Vestas-Celtic Wind Technology together with Kellog Brown & Root have won the contract to build a 90 MW offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea off Cumbria in the north-west of England. The project is owned by Barrow Offshore Wind Ltd (BOW), a 50/50 joint venture between Britain's largest energy company, Centrica, and major Danish oil and gas group DONG. Both companies increased their equity stakes by buying up shares in the company held by their former partner Statkraft, the Norwegian state utility. The 30, 3 MW turbines are to be built in waters 21-23 metres deep, seven kilometres off Walney Island. The blades and nacelles will be made in Vestas' Danish factory. Manufacture of the towers and assembly will be at Vestas Celtic's plant on Kintyre, Scotland.
