The company says its TFS filter efficiently reduces the feedback effects of a wind plant, to the point where the energy supplier "can no longer describe this as a malfunction." The cost of equipping a 12 MW wind farm with the technology will be about EUR 29,000, it says.
Solving grid interference -- Ripple control support
German engineering company Elektronik 21 says it has responded to a request from turbine supplier Vestas and others for a solution to the problem of "ripple control disturbance" caused by wind farms on the grid. The solution, says Elektronik 21, is what it calls an audio frequency blocker. Energy supply companies use ripple control technology, essentially sending signals along the grid, to control street lighting, and to switch storage tank heaters and direct heating systems on or off. This gives system operators better control over system demand and enables the grid to be operated more efficiently. Power supply into the grid from wind turbines can sometimes have negative effects on these signals, according to Elektronik 21.
