Dedicated joint venture facility in Germany Repower
German turbine supplier Repower is establishing a rotor blade manufacturing joint venture with Abeking & Rasmussen (A&R). Originally a German ship builder, the company branched into wind turbine blades some years ago and supplies Enercon, among others. The joint venture will produce blades developed by Repower at a planned 16,000 square metre factory at the port of Bremerhaven, close to the planned production hall for Repower's 5 MW offshore wind turbines. Repower will hold a 51% stake in the new company. "In Abeking & Rasmussen, we have found a partner with many years of experience and excellent know-how in rotor blade production," says Repower's Fritz Vahrenholt. A&R subsidiary A&R Rotec has been manufacturing six to 56 metre rotor blades for international customers since the mid 1980s. The city of Bremerhaven is providing economic development support for both factories. Plans for a rotor blade production facility in Portugal continue, Repower adds.
