EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN), the dedicated renewables arm of French utility EDF, announced an increase in net income of 31.9% to EUR 21.9 million in 2006, thanks mainly to growth in its wind holdings. Revenues from generation grew 29.2% to EUR 138.2 million as new wind plant came on line in 2005 and 2006, while income from operation and maintenance rose 12.8% from new contracts in America. EDF EN's total installed capacity rose from 830 MW to 1037 MW at year-end 2006, of which wind accounts for 813 MW, including 607 MW on the company's own account. A further 615 MW of new wind plant is under construction, with 401 MW on the company's own account. EDF EN added 229 MW of wind power to its holdings in 2006: 76 MW in Portugal, 75.4 MW in Greece, 44 MW in Britain, 19.6 MW in America and 14 MW in France. The group also continued to invest in other renewables, notably solar power, biomass and biofuels. "In a supportive regulatory environment, EDF Energies Nouvelles continued to deliver growth in line with its strategic plan to achieve 3000 MW in net installed capacity by year-end 2011," says board chairman Pâris Mouratoglou. EDF EN is gradually drawing on its framework agreement with Repower for delivery of up to 140 MW of 2 MW turbines by the end of 2008. It recently ordered 26 turbines for the Chemin d'Ablis project in the Eure-et-Loire département southwest of Paris and 20 turbines for two projects in England: the 26 MW Bicker Fen plant in East Anglia and the 14 MW Walkway plant in north-east England.
