A 7.5 MW wind farm proposed for Meenacahan in Donegal has been rejected by the County Council. The planning application by Northern Ireland company B9 Energy Services was turned down on grounds of loss of visual amenity. B9's David Surplus maintains that the site, which has a power purchase contract under Ireland's Alternative Energy Requirement (AER), is well suited to wind energy development. Compared with most other sites it is not visually intrusive at all, he says. The company is appealing the decision. Larne based B9 has close working links with Renewable Energy Systems -- another UK company which is active in Ireland. RES succeeded in securing two AER contracts. It already has planning consent for its site at Cark Mountain in Donegal, but it has appealed against a rejection by planners of its project at Tullytresna, also in Donegal.
