Godfrey Bevan from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is to retire early from his post as director of energy technologies at the end of September. Bevan is well known in the UK renewable energy business as champion of their cause. He was the architect of the UK renewables support programme from 1990, when at his suggestion the Non-Fossil Fuel Obligation (NFFO) -- the vehicle for subsidies to the nuclear industry -- was extended to support renewable energy as well. In June, Bevan handed over responsibility for his energy programs to his successor at the DTI John Doddrell. Doddrell has worked in energy policy at the DTI for the last few years. Before that he was seconded to Shell and has been involved in coal privatisation.
