Negotiators hope to have a contract by the end of the year for a 60 MW wind plant near Alta in northwestern Iowa, says Jeff Gust of the utility Midwest Power. The contract would be between Midwest Wind Developers and Midwest Power, of Des Moines, Iowa. Midwest Wind Developers consists of Windtricity and Zond Systems Inc. Windtricity has been negotiating since the spring of 1993. Zond came into the picture in late 1993, says Gust. The turbine used would probably be Zond's Z-40, a new 500 kW machine. Indeed Midwest Power is using the turbine in transmission studies it is currently undertaking, says Gust.
