Spanish turbine manufacturers Gamesa Eólica and Ingetur have clinched separate orders in China totalling 89 MW. The announcements coincided with the visit to China by Spain's Prime Minister José Luis Zapatero. Gamesa's EUR 32 million order is for 69, 850 kW turbines. The developer is Chinese utility Jilin Electric Power. The machines go to two developments totalling 59 MW in the province of Jilin in the northeast of the country. Gamesa will supply turbines, without towers, and will supervise plant installation and power up. Towers will be produced locally. Turbine installation is scheduled for next month. The deal "consolidates Gamesa Eólica's leading position in China, where it occupied first place in 2004 with 71 MW installed," says Gamesa. Over 2005, the company says it has clinched deals for 226 MW in China. Gamesa competitor Ingetur -- a relative newcomer to the wind industry and an affiliate of the major Acciona group-will supply and install 20, 1.5 MW machines for the Xilighaote project in Inner Mongolia developed by Yongsheng National Energy Wind Power. Ingetur will also take charge of plant maintenance. Nacelles will be imported from Ingetur's facility in Spain, while the 34 metre blades and 80 metre towers will be produced in China. The deal marks Ingetur's first order in China. It follows on the heels of a ¤25 million joint venture between Acciona and the state-owned China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) to build a turbine manufacturing facility in the city of Nantong, capable of producing Ingetur turbines at a rate of 800 MW a year. The joint venture has extended to include a framework deal to develop hydrogen production and desalination using renewable power.
