Lake Huron wind project to supply Bullfrog Power

Ontario wind power developer Sky Generation has started construction of a 9.9 MW project on the shores of Lake Huron and expects to be producing power by late fall. The project, made up of six Vestas 1.65 MW turbines, has a contract to supply a portion of its production to Bullfrog Power, a green electricity retailer based in Toronto. It will take at least one-third of the output, says Sky Generation's Glen Estill, although exactly how much it will buy will be determined closer to commissioning. "If they get a lot of new customers in the next couple of months, they may buy as much as all of it," he says. Any remaining power will be bought under Ontario's program of standard offer contracts for wind power. Estill points out that any wind power bought and sold by private retailers does not count towards the province's renewable energy supply targets, "so Bullfrog customers make a difference to new supply in the province."
