Wind latest worldwide
News from the wind front has continued to flow despite the summer vacation in the northern hemisphere. Europe is at last to get its directive for promotion of renewable energy, although the European Commission is still unhappy with the non-competitive nature of Germany's fixed wind tariff. The exclusion of nuclear as a "clean development mechanism" from the Kyoto protocol is good news for wind, as is a report from the G8 renewables task force calling for more clean power. ScottishPower has surprised Britain with a plan for a huge onshore wind farm while the battle for a fair deal under the country's new electricity trading arrangements continues. In the Netherlands, the start of green certificate trading has already required a precedent setting court ruling. On the other side of the Atlantic, a ground squirrel has caused a downsizing of the Stateline wind farm while SeaWest takes the lead in the huge BPA solicitation.
