NORDEX 1 MW INSTALLED

The first 1 MW machine to be installed in inland North Rhine Westfalia (NRW) was inaugurated at Borgentreich near Kassel on May 10. The Nordex Balcke-Dürr machine, which is supported by NRW as a demonstration project, was officially started by NRW's permanent under secretary for building works, Joachim Westermann, reports Nordex Balcke-Dürr. By the end of the year the company expects to sell 40 more of the large turbines, built at Rerik. The biggest project looks like being a wind station of nine turbines near Eschweiler. The order would be for DEM 20 million. The site is an old coal tip located at Nierchen near Aachen, created through the mining activities of the former Eschweiler Bergwerksverein company. The turbines will be installed in the second half of 1996. Export orders for the 1 MW have also been received from Spain and Luxembourg, which is investing in wind power for the first time, reports the company. Nordex Balcke-Dürr is also planning to introduce its 1 MW wind turbine on a 70 metre lattice tower in August.
