Renewables and efficiency have been endorsed by customers of yet another subsidiary of the utility Central and South West Corp (CSW) of Dallas. The results of a third "Deliberative Poll," released on August 30, indicate that customers in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas of a CSW subsidiary in Shreveport, Louisiana, strongly support renewables and efficiency. More than half of those queried preferred the option of efficiency while 28% wanted an option such as wind or solar. The other options of importing power and building a new fossil fuel plant were less popular. When participants' first and second choices were combined, efficiency got 75%, renewables 57%. These views of customers of Southwestern Electric Power Co (SWEPCO) were garnered during group discussions on energy held on August 24 and 25 for the poll, commissioned by CSW. The findings confirm those of two previous Deliberative Polls of customers of Central Power & Light and West Texas Utilities. SWEPCO expects to need 150 to 250 MW of new capacity by the year 2000
