NEG Micon breaths new life into former shipyard
New life has been breathed into a third defunct shipyard in Denmark by the wind turbine industry. NEG Micon is to lease both the production and administrative facilities of the former Svendborg shipyard in the south of the main island of Funen, opening its third centre for steel production in Denmark. NEG Micon says it will create 30 jobs at Svendborg by the end of the year. An option to buy the yard-particularly attractive because of the access it provides for easy shipping of major parts such as towers-is included in the three year leasing contract. The Svendborg shipyard closed down in April. Other shipyards, at Nakskov and at Frederikshavn, have also been taken over by the wind industry.
