China's first domestic 2 MW turbine installed in Inner Mongolia
China's first domestically produced 2 MW wind turbine has been installed at China Huaneng Group's Huitengxile wind farm in Inner Mongolia. The machine was designed by Germany's Aerodyn, a wind industry veteran, and made by Haizhuang Wind Power Equipment Company, which owns the intellectual property rights to the machine, the largest yet made by a Chinese firm. Certified by Germanischer Lloyd, the model has also been tested by the German wind energy institute, DEWI. Haizhuang, a subsidiary of state owned China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), will supply another 12, 2 MW units to the Huitengxile site under a CNY 157 million ($21.28 million) deal. So far, only 70% of the components from which the turbine is assembled are made in China, to meet the requirements of Chinese law, but this will rise to 90% in due course, says Haizhuang's Yang Benxin. The turbine is made to withstand operation in a variety of climatic conditions, says the company.
