Canada's AAER Systems, based in Montreal, says it will open a wind turbine production facility in buildings that housed a former Hyundai factory in Bromont, Quebec. The company, which holds the North American licence for German-developed Fuhrländer-Pfleiderer technology, plans to begin assembling nacelles by mid-year and will take possession of additional space at the end of the year for manufacture of composite blades. At full production, the facility is expected to produce 400 turbines a year for target markets that include the Americas, the UK and France. The new facility will also house the head office. AAER signed its first turbine purchase agreement with British Columbia's Katabatic Power in late 2006 (“uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç, January 2007). The AAER turbine type is related to designs licensed for manufacture in South Korea and China last month (page 44).
