Finnish developer installs 3 MW turbine and seeks to test 5 MW unit

Finland's sole wind turbine maker, WinWind, will install a 3 MW turbine early next year for Hyötytuuli Oy, the leading Finnish wind power producer. The machine will go up in the Tahkoluoto area, where the company is already operating its 10 MW wind farm. Hyötytuuli also wants to test the 5 MW Multibrid technology from German company Prokon Nord and machines in the 3 MW size category to make comparisons with its 2 MW and 2.3 MW Siemens wind turbines and to gain more experience for a planned 50 MW near shore wind farm that the company would like to put into operation "one day" in the shallow waters surrounding the Tahkoluoto port area. Hyötytuuli's 2 MW turbine, located in the western tip of Tahkoluoto, is the best producing wind turbine in Finland and runs each year for the equivalent of 3300 hours at full load.
