Alliant Energy will purchase an additional 50-100 MW of power from Invenergy LLC's Forward Wind Energy Center near Brownsville, Wisconsin. With the sale, Invenergy has sold all 200 MW of power expected to be produced by the 133 turbines at the site. If approved in time by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin, construction will begin in June 2005 and the project will be energized by December 31, allowing it to take advantage of the $0.018/kWh federal production tax credit (PTC) set to expire at the end of the year. The additional wind power will help Wisconsin Power & Light, a utility subsidiary of Alliant, reach its stated renewable energy goal by 2010. It also brings Alliant's total wind energy portfolio to approximately 450 MW. Wisconsin requires utilities to include 1.2% of renewables in their energy portfolios in 2005 and 2.2% by 2012. Alliant issued a request for proposals in spring 2004 for the project. Invenergy's other contracts for output from the site are with Madison Gas & Electric for 40 MW, Wisconsin Public Power Inc for 40 MW, and Wisconsin Public Service for 70 MW.
