British firm Falck Renewables completes 52 MW
Britain's Falck Renewables, a subsidiary of Italy's Gruppo Falck, an independent power producer, has completed its first Italian wind farm, a 52 MW facility located in Minervino Murge in the southern Italian region of Apulia. Comprising 26 Nordex 2 MW turbines, the plant will generate 100 GWh a year, meeting the needs of about 40,000 households. All of the EUR 114.4 million in project financing needed for the development was finally secured in February. Lenders include Société Générale, the Italian state-controlled Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and Banca Infrastrutture Innovazione e Sviluppo, the public financing unit of Italian lender Intesa Sanpaolo. Falck already operates wind farms in the UK and Spain. The Minervino Murge project brings its total installed capacity to 330 MW. A further 109 MW of wind capacity is currently under construction by the company in Italy and France. Falck's says its approach is to be the long term owner and operator of a major portfolio of wind energy projects. "All our projects are being developed in partnership with local developers and other stakeholders."
