With projects in California, India, China and Israel already on its books, NedWind is no stranger to overseas ventures and the launch of NedWind Caribbean BV in mid October sees the Rhenen-based company extending its interests into the Caribbean. Based in Willemstad, Curaçao, NedWind Caribbean is a joint venture in which NedWind Windturbines of Holland and local Curaçao company CMP Trading Services -- an affiliate of the Lucia Group Holding -- each have a 50% stake. Its launch effectively marks NedWind's return to the region after the completion of its wind farm of 12, 250 kW turbines at Tera Cora on Curaçao in 1993. It was the success of this project that convinced the Dutch company to set about developing the market potential of the region. During a two-year start-up phase, a commercial manager and two staff members will conduct a further in-depth study of development possibilities in the area after which the company will be equipped to provide technical support and, eventually, have its own assembly facilities.
