Six projects totalling 38 MW selected by Kyushu Electric Power Company

Six wind projects totalling 38 MW have been selected in the latest invitation for bids issued by the Kyushu Electric Power Company. Under the terms of the invitation to tender, Kyushu Electric will pay ´3/kWh for the power produced, with additional income of ´9-10/kWh coming from the sale of green power credits which utilities must require under Japanese renewable energy legislation. The largest projects planned are an 18 MW plant at Hisen, Karatsushi, Saga-Prefecture and a 14 MW development at Tamanoshike, Itsushi, Nagasaki-Prefecture. The 18 MW project will consist of 12, 1.5 MW machines and is expected online in March 2008, while the 14 MW, due online a year earlier, will consist of seven 2 MW turbines. All four remaining projects will be less than 2 MW, with the smallest being a single 300 kW turbine due for completion in January in Itsuwa, Amakusa-gun, Kumamoto-Prefecture.
