The wind power subsidiary of major Indian industrial conglomerate Kalyani, Kenersys, is considering Germany as a location for a wind turbine assembly works in Europe, says the company's Andreas Reuter. It intends to make 2 MW and 2.5 MW machines in Europe to compliment production facilities under construction in Pune, India. With interests in engineering, steel, forgings, auto components, and speciality chemicals, Kalyani established a wind division in September when it acquired RSBConsult, a small turbine design and consulting company in Münster founded by three engineers previously with Tacke Windenergie before it was taken over by Enron and Enron's wind business was swallowed by GE Wind. Kenersys continues to handle RSBConsult's customers. These include German wind developer Eno Energy and Avantis, which is based in Hong Kong but has a branch in Dinslaken, Germany. A prototype of a 2 MW turbine for Eno is due to be installed near Rostock shortly, says Reuter. For Avantis, work is continuing on designs for a 2.5 MW turbine without a gearbox. Kenersys is part of the design consortium. A prototype of the 2.5 MW unit will be installed sometime in 2008, says Reuter. His team is also designing a 2 MW turbine for the Indian market and those parts of Europe with logistical challenges as well as another 2.5 MW machine for the rest of the European market. These Kenersys prototypes are to go in the ground, probably in Germany, in 2008 with series production to begin in 2009. "We have bought components initially sufficient until 2011," Reuter adds, although he declines to give details of production targets.
