The 100 MW is Phase II of the 415 MW of wind to be installed by the end of 2002. Earlier, 25 MW of Kenetech 33 KVS machines, formerly called the Model 33M-VS, have been installed in Phase I. NSP hopes to award a power purchase contract or contracts to one or more companies by June 30.
"Wind as an energy resource is playing an ever-increasing role in NSP's varied energy mix," says Glynis Hinschberger of NSP. Developers submitted 17 proposals totalling about 1375 MW, which were evaluated secretly by Reed Consulting Group.
Hinschberger would not divulge what wind turbines the various companies are bidding with, or whether NRG Inc, its non-regulated subsidiary, submitted a bid using Vestas machines.
Apparently SeaWest might have bid with German Tacke and/or Danish Nordtank wind turbines. Bob Ghilardi of SeaWest would not confirm or deny this. But it was announced on March 9 that Northern Alternative Energy Inc of Minneapolis is co-operating with SeaWest in its bid. It has also not been determined what machine FloWind is considering, but Zond had bid with its new Z-40 turbine, says the company's Ken Karas. Kenetech bid with newly named 33 KVS.
