New World Power Company's first British project
Work is starting on Britain's latest wind farm in south west Wales. New World Power Company (NWP) -- UK subsidiary to New World Power Corporation of Connecticut, USA -- is to install 11, 500 kW Nordtank turbines in its first British project at Dyffryn Brodyn near Carmarthen in Dyfed. The company purchased the rights to the site from Wind Power Systems, together with a 1991 NFFO contract guaranteeing a premium price for its electricity output. The project was delayed while NWP sought an amendment to the original planning permission in order to use Nordtank machines. According to NWP's Christopher Glen, Dyffryn Brodyn gives the company a foothold in the UK. NWP is also bidding for further power purchase contracts under the current round of NFFO.
