Kenetech “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç says it has now financed what will be the largest wind farm in the US outside California -- its $35 million Texas project of 80 turbines. The 25 MW plant, in Culberson County, will sell power to the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and will be financed by a non-recourse debt from John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Co as well as 50% equity from the Louisville, Kentucky utility holding company, LG&E Energy Corp, and power plant operator, Quixx Corp, a unit of Southwestern Public Service Co of Amarillo, Texas. The plant will be managed through a partnership of Kenetech, LG&E and Quixx. Kenetech plans ultimately to build 250 MW in west Texas and is working with LCRA as a development partner and broker.
