Nordex goes for Midwest factory

German wind turbine supplier Nordex expects to locate its first US manufacturing facility in the American Midwest. The factory will provide about 600 jobs and start production of 2.5 MW turbines sometime in 2009. Nordex is aiming for an annual production capacity in the US of 750 MW by 2012. The $100 million investment includes facilities for rotor blade production. At the end of last year, Nordex received two US orders with a combined capacity of 220 MW for projects scheduled for completion in 2008 and 2009. The 2.5 MW turbines are being assembled in Germany. The company, which operates production facilities in China as well as Europe, hopes to be generating up to 20% of its sales in North America within the next few years.
