Construction firm contracts German wind developer
Ucgen, a Turkish construction company, has contracted German renewables company Epuron, owned by Conergy, to develop and build 14 MW of wind power at Seferihisar on the Aegean coast south-west of Izmir. Epuron will also select the turbines and advise on the project financing. Commissioning should take place by 2010. Epuron is keen to strengthen its position in the "very attractive" Turkish market, which it estimates will grow at an average of 50% a year to 2012. Last year the company, with its local joint-venture partner Ataseven, submitted applications for ten projects totalling up to 3000 MW in the provinces of Izmir, Balikesir, Manisa and Bursa, all in western Turkey. They are optimistic at least some licences will be issued next year. Epuron will be responsible for development and financing, while Ataseven will undertake the infrastructure work.
