Satellite trackers for swans

Fifty whooper swans from Welney in east coast Norfolk county have been fitted with satellite tracker devices to find out if wind farms pose a threat to them on their migratory journeys from Britain to Iceland. The project -- dubbed Super Whooper 2009 -- is a collaboration between COWRIE (Collaborative Offshore Wind Research into the Environment) and the Welney Wildlife Trust. The data collected from monitoring the swans will be analysed to assess both the impact of existing offshore wind farms on their life patterns as well as whether development of sites earmarked for offshore wind farm development could prove detrimental to their well being.
