Ontario Hydro allows renewables to bank power
-
Ontario Hydro's retail division has given approval for a one year "electricity banking" scheme for renewable energy. Under the net billing scheme, a maximum of 20 retail customers using 50 kW or less of renewable technology would be allowed to bank their excess power production with the utility. This excess would be stored as credit, but must be reclaimed within 12 months of connection. The cost of connection to the grid would be borne by the customer. By definition, participants in the scheme could have included individual wind turbines selected under the utility's RETs programme, now on the shelf.
