United Nations action on renewables
-
The United Nations secretary general has been asked by UN members to make recommendations to facilitate the development of renewables, reports European Wind Energy Associaton (EWEA) director, Christophe Bourillon. Wind is to be used as a case study, he says, and EWEA has been asked to draft the document. Bourillon met with UN officials in New York to discuss the report which must be presented to the UN's General Assembly in 1997. "This could be very important. I have been involved in a similar situation when I was in the coal industry where we wrote a piece of legislation which was then adopted by the UN and implemented by UN members," says Bourillon.
