Blades built by robot -- French innovation

A young French company, Coriolis Composites, claims to have developed a system that will fully automate the production of wind turbine blades. Using technology that has already been successfully applied to boat building, the four engineers who compose Coriolis say that they can build a robot to lay glass fibre or carbon on blades more smoothly than can be managed by hand, and at greatly reduced labour costs.

Their research and development has been subsidised by the French research ministry and Coriolis is now looking for a wind turbine manufacturer to put the process into practice. Following a recent tour of German wind turbine and blade makers, the company points out that blade manufacturing will be a main challenge in coming years due to the increase of the number of blades demanded by the market and the difficulty to find enough workers to build them.

Coriolis is looking for financial partners to finance the final stages of its developments.
