GERMANISCHER LLOYD CHANGES TO CERTIFICATION

Classification society Germanischer Lloyd (GL) reports a change to the application of its simplified load spectra. Due to recent results of measurements and simulations of wind turbine loads, the general application of the simplified load spectra is now restricted to horizontal axis machines with three rotor blades and a diameter of less than 46 m. The relevant modification of the GL regulation will be available as soon as it has been approved by GL's wind committee. Two other alterations have recently been approved to GL's wind turbine classification rules -- on lightning protection and the slope of the S/N curve of GRP made with Epoxy resin ( k=10), says GL. In addition GL points out that its new Regulation for the Certification of Offshore Wind Energy Conversion Systems will be published this summer.
