New research support in North East

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has made $250,000 available in research funds to develop, improve or commercialise wind technology or the manufacturing of wind products. The program is limited to improving wind or wind linked products made within New York state. Projects that develop products incorporating wind technologies, as well as projects that develop new or improved manufacturing methods, are eligible for support. Specifically, the goals are to reduce the installed and life cycle costs of wind energy systems; improving their performance; and provide manufacturing jobs in New York state. Eligible wind technologies include wind turbines, end-use wind energy systems, and devices or products to be used in wind turbines such as blades, inverters, towers, gears or brakes. The research funds, announced on March 17, are to be met with at least 50% cost sharing for the project. NYSERDA says it expects to make multiple awards, with no more than $150,000 per project. Final proposals are due on August 11 and pre-proposals by June 11.
