GE offers wind farm layout service

In completion with specialised wind power software suppliers, GE Energy has launched a wind farm layout program for project developers to help them maximise energy capture at any given site through optimal placement of turbines without exceeding turbine design limits. GE Energy says its system, called WindLayout, will create energy production estimates based on wind resource and site data from customers. The company will also provide due diligence on wind resource assessments. The service is limited to plant using GE's 1.5 MW turbines and 2.5 MW turbines. The 2.5 MW is specifically designed to cope with limited land availability in Europe, says GE. WindLayout is targeted at wind project developers, wind asset owners and consultants. Competitors in the field include UK-based consulting firm Garrad Hassan and Denmark's national laboratory at Risø.
