Indian celebrities keen to invest in wind energy
In a country where watching movies and cricket are tantamount to religious practices, the increasing support for renewable energy from the country's cricketing and film stars is providing a welcome boost to the wind industry. Top film star Aishwarya Rai has invested in a 2.5 MW wind project, developed by Suzlon, at Sodamada in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. Cricket hero Sachin Tendulkar, who has one of the largest fan bases in the world, is also rumoured to be keen to invest in wind energy. "India's celebrities' willingness to invest in wind energy makes them look green friendly while giving substantial tax benefits with returns on investment adding further gains to earnings," says a wind industry observer.
