Record wind growth in Canada but weather delays projects under construction
With 146 MW of new wind capacity already online, the Canadian Wind Energy Association is predicting the country's wind market could see growth of 70% this year. Some projects are facing weather delays, however. Heavy rain has pushed back completion of the 84 MW second phase of the St Leon project, Manitoba' first wind farm to February. The 19.8 MW first phase was due online late last month. In Saskatchewan, three tornadoes merged into one and touched down on the site of the 150 MW Centennial Wind Power Facility, damaging blades awaiting installation and wrecking the crane being used to lift nacelles and blades to the top of the towers.
