Two Croatian companies are planning wind projects in the Slavonia region of eastern Croatia. Primani, the wind development subsidiary of construction company Ingra, hopes to build a 60 MW project in Rados, Ilok, in the Vukovar-Srijem district near the Croatian-Serbian border. It has been taking wind measurements at Rados for the past three months. Preliminary results are positive, it says. If it proceeds with the -- 90 million project, it plans to install 24, 2.5 MW turbines. It expects to have all planning documents ready next year and hopes to start construction in 2011. The company is also looking at Principovac as another location for wind projects. Meanwhile, engineering company Koncar, based in Zagreb, is also considering the Vukovar-Srijem district for wind development. It has conducted measurements of wind energy at Tovarnik since 2007 and is hoping to develop a 10-15 MW plant. Koncar is also investigating the potential for projects in the municipality of Sid in Serbia, as well as in Baranja and Koprivnica. While it will be the main contractor, the projects will be owned by Croatian power utility Hrvatska Elektroprivreda. If the projects proceed, they will use a 1 MW turbine developed by Koncar in partnership with Zagreb university's engineering faculty. A prototype is to be installed on Pometeno Hill in Split later this year. "We expect that wind power plants will be one of our most important products over the coming years," says Koncar's Darinko Bago. "We will initially develop wind power plants in Croatia in order to get the necessary references for turbine exports, after which we will sell the wind parks to other developers."
