The wind company owned by the Evangelical Church of Saxony in Magdeburg, called Kiwi, plans to install 60 wind turbines in eastern Germany in 1996. Most of these will be 1.5 MW machines. Plans are to install 60% in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, with the rest to be sited in Brandenburg. Profits attributable to Kiwi from the projects will be devoted to charitable purposes. An economic advisory board is to be set up for each project to decide how exactly the surplus should be used. Kiwi already operates nine turbines in Germany, all Enercon E40 units -- three in North Friesland, three in the Magdeburg area, and three in North Rhine Westfalia.
