Fuhrländer 800 kW and wind chimney

Fuhrländer Umwelttechnik has completed development of its 800 kW turbine and now offers turbines rated at 30 kW, 100 kW, 250 kW and now 800 kW. The first two 800 kW machines were installed last month at sites along the border of Hesse and Rhineland Palatinate. The 30 kW unit, marketed for the past 12 years, is now being offered with 6.1 metre blades from Danish blade supplier LM Glasfiber. Noting growing interest from Vietnam, Africa and Indonesia, the Waigandshain company says the 30 kW turbine can be ordered for either grid connected use or for stand-alone hybrid wind/diesel systems. Fuhrländer is also involved in a project in which a 100 kW wind turbine has been equipped with two mini turbines to harness upward currents of wind in its tower. One of the 3 kW mini wind generators has been built into the foundation and the other sited half way up the tower. Air channels have been added to the foundation and a special component fixed to the underside of the nacelle to improve the chimney effect of the tower. The adaptations added DEM 40,000 to the cost of the project, installation of which was completed in November. It received a 30% subsidy from the Bavarian economy ministry.
