A group of German and Dutch researchers are working on a new rotor blade concept for pitch controlled wind turbines of 600 kW and larger. The design incorporates a series of innovations, including optimised airfoils and an optional "multi-element-layout in the inner part of the blade," reports Euros Entwicklungsgesellschaft für Windkraftanlagen of Berlin, which is leading the work.

The first set of experimental blades will be tested in the autumn on a Lagerwey gearless 750 kW machine, installed by Euros in December at Gross Hasslow in Brandenburg at a site brokered by Lagerwey's German agent, Wistra. The turbine is the first of its kind in Germany. Others involved in the project are TU Delft in the Netherlands and German Aerodyn. Wistra expects to sell between 30 and 50 of the turbine type in Germany this year. Contracts have been signed for 28 so far, mainly for projects in North Rhine Westfalia, but also in Brandenburg and Mecklenburg.
