Former energy minister now heading UK operations of Irish wind firm
Former British energy minister Brian Wilson is to head a new UK operations group of Irish wind developer and retailer Airtricity. The company says it is pulling together its British onshore and offshore activities under one organisational structure. Wilson takes the role of non-executive chairman. Airtricity is looking for a chief executive to take the reins. It says its British group will look at future investments and strategic development of its UK activities. It also intends to establish strong communications with the British, Scottish and Northern Ireland governments. According to Airtricity, the move is a further sign that the company is concentrating less on its home Irish market and is increasingly developing and building wind farms in the UK, US and beyond. Wilson says Airtricity's plans could make a real contribution to the UK's renewables goals. "It also has a good record of working with communities and this is something I will seek to encourage."
